I second that, and motion for a vote.

On the one hand, the site's name alone is worthy of the award, but I'm certainly tempted to include the specific page that led me to the site. So we cite both:

Yep. what can I add to that?

the unwelcome guest

Let's mark the grand return of that damnable Insomnia.

It's not a cause for celebration.

That is to say, it's 3:50ish AM, I am not currently sleepy (despite a sixer, and the fact that I worked a nine hour shift last evening) (yes, evening, as in 3pm-11:30) and hey, would you look at that, I have to go back to work in 7 hours. So tomorrow I'll be running on coffee and will power -- but mostly coffee.

In the past, the insomnia hasn't been good for much; I mean, I have been known to write fractionally more when I can't sleep, but vast blocks of time are wasted on things like neatorama, cool tools, MAKE: blog, needcoffee, elsewares, drawn!, bibliodyssey, scans daily, pink tentacle and tv in japan; or old fallbacks like fark and the boing, which are always good for a half hour or two.

(y'all might want to cut-n-paste or bookmark that list -- that's consistently good stuff right there.)

There are other projects I should be working on. Heck, I could be writing something more than excuses to this blog right here, and yet... something about missing sleep does not inspire me to greater things, it just makes me want to bitch.

In the next half hour, I'll either crash and manage a scarce two hours of sleep-- or I'll start a pot of coffee. Screw trying to redeem tonight, and take the opportunity to reset the biological clock 15 or so hours from now.

working on my day off

somebody, somewhere, is no doubt going to come down with an urge to kill me--or perhaps just kick me in the junk--because I'm about to complain about having to read some manga this afternoon, and there's an artist/writer interview over email that I need to type up and send out, and I need to start researching the latest DVD releases so I can find a few anime series that will be finishing up thier run soon, also to review for the site...

Well, I did ask for it, didn't I.

After the six week bet (which was also my idea) when we were each doing daily posts (50+ reviews for that run, between the two of us...) I'm a little drained, and of course I still have to put in 40 hours a week in the book mines.

It's a damn good thing I like graphic novels.

and there's the BWSNotWA that I've forgotten about as well, methinks. *sigh* so much to do. Hand me another beer, will you?

we all come across words bent all out of meaning. sometimes we stop and think, but mostly, we keep on using the words with the meanings we think they have.

the best article you'll read this week is no doubt this one over on Wired news. ...but I don't give out a best article award, it's the

Oblivio

What led me to Oblivio was the essay Mercy. Oh I suppose it could be fiction, since some aspects of it are fantastic, nay, incredible (in the original sense of that word: "unable to be believed") but still a worthy read for all that.

*Huzzah!* Break out more grog and cakes!

Or would that be break out the grog and cakes again?

Eric over on Websnark is updating again. Huzzah!

...

"we're fresh out of cakes"

What have we got?

"your fridge is full of condiments. not much else."

Hm. How we doing on the grog front?

"Beer's out. There are a few bottles of cheap ass wine, if you don't mind poaching from the roommate..."

I don't.

"How's some Trader Joe's Shiraz sound?"

Lovely. And let's hope we can buy replacements before he notices.

Curious Cat

The Curious Cat is a blog collecting news on science and engineering -- but if the old saw is true, than that poor cat's days are numbered. Or maybe the cat belongs to Schrodinger, and so exists in a quantum state between life and death, and as such artfully avoids the fate that excessive curiosity would usually visit upon a feline.
